Does anyone have a hard time just throwing old clothes away? Well I do, although I have to say that I have been pretty good (lately) with keeping my closet reasonably organized and getting rid of things that I don’t wear any longer and by getting rid of I mean putting them in a tote in my basement for a very long time until I figure out a different use for them. Hey at least they are not still in my living space.
Here is a super cute repurpose for an old sweater if you have a little one who can benefit from it. I turned my old sweater into a cute little pom pom sweater dress for my younger daughter.
You can do this with just about anything with just using a shirt that the little one already owns. I took an over sized sweatshirt that she had in her closet and used that as my template.
-Fold both the repurposed sweater and kid’s shirt in half being sure to match the seams together, then lay the shirt over the sweater with the folded sides matching. Be sure to match up the existing neck lines. Using a fabric marker or chalk trace around the shirt making sure to leave ½ inch seam allowance and cut.

-Place sleeves together and place kid’s shirt sleeves over the sweater sleeves on the fold side. Trace sleeve and cut it out. I cut off the finished end of the sleeves and sewed them on the new sleeve.

In true to self-form I forgot to take photos of all the step while sewing. I get so into what I’m doing I just forget until its too late.
- Open the sleeves and the sleeve ends, place right sides together and stitch (Note: knit tends to stretch when pulled so be careful not to pull the fabric while sewing but gently guide it thought he machine).
-Take the front and back of the sweater and with right sides together, stitch the shoulder seams.
-Attach the sleeves to the body, with right sides together match up the center of the sleeve with the shoulder seam and pin and sew along the shoulder.
-Placing right sides together pin down the sleeve and side of the sweater and with one continuous stitch sew up the side of the sweater and down the sleeve. Now you have a miniature version of the same sweater, but we want to vamp it up just a little more.

-Take some mini pom-poms that you can get from any local craft store or Walmart. I purchased mines from my favorite fabric store Joann’s.
-Lay the pom-poms out in the design you choose, after you are satisfied with the look attached them with fabric glue. I used Aleene’s OK To Wash-It. Allow to dry fully and your all done.
