We all know that distressed/ripped jean have been a big trend for the last few years and they aren't going anywhere anytime soon. They also come with a hefty price tag, especially if you are buying for more than 1 person. The solution DIY! Why not, it is really simple, and you don't have to break the bank to stay stylish this spring & summer. I started doing this when Brook was about 3 there was no way I was going to pay $40, $30 or even $20 on some toddler jeans that would not fit her in 6 months (I actually don't spend $20 on her jeans now.) I purchase your basic denims, you know the ones always on sale, and we stock up every year when Children's Place has their annual jean sale $6.99 a pair, you can also shop thrift stores for jeans to distress. I like to buy the $20 jeans from old navy for myself and distress them. I have people asking me to distress their jean for them, but, I'm going to teach you to fish instead, you get it right?!) Anyways, keep scrolling and I'll show you how to make your cheap basic denim look like $100 jeans.

All you need:
- Pair of jeans
- Scissors
- Razor
-Sandpaper
- Tweezers
- Marker/chalk
- A piece of cardboard
Step 1: Try on jeans and make a mark the knee area where you want the rip to start, make another mark down where you want the rip to stop and where ever you want them ripped/distressed.

Step 2: Cut a horizontal slit across the marks you made. Cut across to the width you would like the hole to be. (SN: if you want a hole in jeans then cut out the square or rectangle, if you want the white thread across then just cut the 2 slits.)

Step 3: Now slide the cardboard between the front and back of the jeans so you do not cut through the back of the pants while working on the front. take the razor and make tiny vertical slits along the top and bottom of the cut you made. With the sand paper, go over the edges of the cuts and any other areas where you just want the jeans a little distressed.

Step 4: (skip this step if you just want a hole & don't want the white thread lines) Put on a movie or some music (because this will take a while). Using the tweezers begin to pull out the blue thread, exposing the white thread. It may take a little effort to grab the first few threads but once you get out a few it will get a lot easier.

For those who want a raw and/or uneven hem, or for the mamas who have babies whose pant are now flooding but still fit otherwise. Don't throw them away continue to step 5.

Step 5: (skip if not changing the hem) try on pants and mark where you want hem to stop if you have not already.

Step 6: cut across the bottom of the pants at the place you marked. Make sure both pant legs are even. (Now repeat Step 3 for the bottom of the jeans as well.)

Step 7: To finish off the look, toss the jeans in the wash. (tip if you are rushing like me normally and need to wear them immediately) just toss them in the dryer for about 10 minutes.

There you go! I'd love to see your gorgeous jean or whatever you decide to distress. So, share and don't forget to subscribe.
