It’s that time again, yep its HALLOWEEN! This is one of our favorite

times of the year, me and my style gene get a chance to be creative and dress up, so we get super excited. Every year since she has been able to express what she wants (3 years old) we have made her costumes. This year she asked to be (drum roll please) Evie! In case you have been living under a rock (joke) or maybe you just don’t have children of age or don’t have children at all Evie is a character from Disney’s Descendants 2.

This should not have come as a surprise seeing that this movie is played in my home at least 3 times a day, every day since it came out and I am not exaggerating. If I’m being honest I really love the movie too, it’s a super cute movie with tons of fashion inspiration, so recreating that character was going to be fun. In true style gene fashion, she didn’t choose the typical more popular Evie look, she went for one of her other equally stylish looks to dress up in. We call it the “Mal Has Gone Back to The Aisle” look. She wore a low/high satin royal blue dress with a leather red jacket over it and studded red boots now we only see this outfit for about a minute in the movie but clearly it left an impression, or I guess if you watch it daily, multiple times a day then you get to see it a lot more.

Every year I vow not to wait to the last minute and that I’m going to start and finish with weeks to spare but in true to self-form I am typically working up to starting the night before, but we always get it done. The look started with some brain storming and online searching for a little girls red leather jacket. After finding a ton of super cute jackets made in china that wouldn’t arrive until December, I recalled seeing one at a local F21 a couple of months back, though it was not in stores any longer a quick search at f21 online and voila half of the costume is complete, we then headed to my favorite fabric store JoAnn’s to pick up fabric and gather the rest of the craft supplies needed. Now by no means do you need to make a custom dress or gloves from scratch you can create the same outfit by purchasing a simple royal blue dress and a pair of $1 red gloves from Walmart, what makes the look is in the details. Evie is never without her accessories. We purchased cheap sticker studs and adhesive backed felt and gold glitter paper for the heart and crown. Brook already had a gold head band that resembled Evie’s tiara, so we just purchased some red beaded jewels and added them with thin gold wire, once the jacket arrived we added the studs to one shoulder and one lapel of the jacket as well as the back of her boots which she already owed. They sell Evie’s blue hair, but I could not find one locally that I was willing to pay the amount they wanted, and I waited too long to order one, so we picked up a $3 wig and blue hair spray paint from Walmart and cut and sprayed it blue. Don’t forget the fingerless gloves, now we made ours from some faux leather red fabric, but you can simply cut off the fingertips of those Walmart gloves or any red glove to make them fingerless. Bam! You have a Super cute Evie costume.

We had a wicked good time and really enjoyed our holiday. I dressed up as Evie’s mom and villain from Snow White “The Evil Queen” and Dad even took part in the festivities as “Jay” also from Descendants as long as all he had to wear was the hat and gloves lol. While our oldest daughter decided not to partake in the costume wearing this year, she did agree to pass out candy as herself lol (man I’m not ready for these pre-teen and teen years).

Well Happy Halloween and I hope you all enjoy your night and if you have not seen the movie I would highly recommend you check it out, but you may want to catch part 1 before you just dive in, so you are not to lost.
